I've done a big overhaul of my site's structure. It feels like winter is the perfect time for this kind of maintenance effort. For a while now, I've been thinking about restructuring my site into color subdomains (e.g., green.elliott.computer, magenta.elliott.computer). Some of these subdomains already exist, but I’d like their use and naming to feel more intentional.
Color has always been an important part of my life and practice. I think it began with my grandmother. When I visited her apartment in San Francisco as a child, instead of talking, she would have me draw with her. Near the end of her life, she created hundreds of colored pencil drawings on standard printer paper. Most of these were light, almost barely touching the paper with her pencil. The stacks of 8.5x11 paper accumulated on tables and shelves.
At my previous job, the company used their brand colors as subdomains for staging new website features. I found this subtle color reference beautiful, partly because it’s written not seen. When you write "green" you fill in your green as you imagine it in your mind.
